Arlington Heights Elementary School (1980) / Library of Congress
A few days in the life of the Arlington Heights Elementary School in Los Angeles in April 1980.
In 1980 I travelled from New York to Los Angeles by Greyhound bus with a Nikon FM, 35mm and a few Tri-X. I had no plan other than visiting a pen pal I had been exchanging letters with for a year or two. It turned out that his mother was working at the Arlington Heights Elementary School. At the time I had already decided that I would become a photographer and I asked if it would be possible to come to the school and take some pictures in black & white in the reportage style that I liked. Years later I rediscovered the images and presented them to the Library of Congress. Now 27 prints are in the collection.
